Slain Marine Had Been Forced to Apologize to Enemy Within

Why continue to waste lives and money in Afghanistan? If we aren’t fighting to win, we may as well pack it in immediately, as the story of Greg Buckley makes obvious:
Deployed to a volatile outpost in southern Afghanistan where U.S. Marines routinely face a mix of skirmishes and hidden explosives, Greg Buckley Jr. sensed that an attack was imminent.
And he knew that it would come from within.
The 21-year-old Marine was posted to Garmsir in Helmand Province, where he was training local security forces as part of NATO’s planned withdrawal in 2014.
One Afghan trainee spent hours on end during nighttime guard duty telling him over and over again, “We don’t want you here. We don’t need you here,” until Buckley finally confronted him. He was of course forced to apologize to the openly anti-American Afghan, who refused to shake his hand.
Buckley was so sure that an Afghan trainee would kill him that he told his family in advance he would not be coming home. Sure enough, he was gunned down in an insider attack two days before he was scheduled to leave Afghanistan.
Apparently it is not politically convenient for Obama to get our people out of that hellhole immediately. Yet there is no plan for anything that could be construed as victory. Under Obama, Afghanistan has degenerated into an unwinnable exercise in humiliation. It may be doing more to destroy morale than his campaign to homosexualize the military.
It isn’t only overseas that we are falling prey to an enemy within.
